Meet bishop loverde
Bishop Paul S. Loverde, installed as the third Bishop of Arlington at the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More on March 25, 1999, was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, on September 3, 1940, to Paul Loverde and Ann Marie Conti.

Bishop Loverde received his early education in Catholic Schools in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, and attended La Salle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island. Receiving the call to priesthood at an early age, Bishop Loverde was educated in both the United States at Saint Bernard Seminary College, Rochester, New York, where he received his B.A. Degree, Summa cum Laude, and also was selected to study in Rome, Italy where he earned his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1966. Bishop Loverde furthered his education at Catholic University in Washington, DC, earning his Licentiate (JCL) in Canon Law in 1982.

Having completed his theological studies, Bishop Loverde was ordained a priest for service in the Diocese of Norwich on December 18, 1965, in the Basilica of Saint Peter, Rome.
Returning to the Diocese of Norwich in early July, 1966, Bishop Loverde served in a variety of assignments both on the parochial and diocesan levels. On April 12, 1988, he was ordained an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Hartford. On January 17, 1994, he was installed as the eleventh Bishop of Ogdensburg, New York. Then, on March 25, 1999, he was installed as the third Bishop of Arlington, VA.
Bishop Loverde has given a number of retreats to priests, deacons, religious and laity. He has authored a number of articles in various Catholic publications. Bishop Loverde's pastoral letters can be found online here. He served as Chairman of the Bishops' Committee on Vocations from 1995 to 1998 and is currently a member of the Bishops' Administrative Committee.
Bishop Loverde serves on the Board of Directors for Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, New York, Mount Saint Mary's College and Seminary, Emmittsburg, Maryland, Catholic Distance University, Hamilton, Virginia, and The Institute for the Psychological Sciences, Arlington, Virginia.
