Book Donations Reach End of Journey

JUNE 8, 2010- Books donated by local schools, including Saint Agnes Catholic School in Arlington, have reached their intended recipients in remote towns of eastern Uganda. 150 cartons of books were collected in an October book drive by local schools, Brownie troops and staff of the International Monetary Fund.

Saint Agnes School librarian, Kara LaGrassa, said, “We conducted the book drive as part of our annual book fair, and it is wonderful for the children to see the direct results of their efforts to help schoolchildren like them half a world away.”

In the Presence of His Teachers and Classmates, St. Charles School Student is Received into Church

Attending the baptism and First Communion of a recent eighth grade graduate was an honor for St. Charles’ students. St. Charles’ pastor Father Gerry Creedon baptized Tavon Gilbert at a school Mass held the week following his graduation. Tavon had been preparing for the sacraments while a student at the school and desired to be baptized in the presence of his former classmates and his cousin Michael, who is also preparing for baptism. He chose the name of the Archangel Raphael as his baptismal name. Raphael was a healer, his uncle pointed out. Tavon was accompanied by family members and stood before his friends and his teachers Ms. Kate Knox and Ms. Ingrid Chavez and the school principal, Ms. Linda Lacot. With his school family, Tavon affirmed his desire to be a full member of the Catholic Church and live his new life in Christ in the tradition of the Archangel Raphael, a healer.
