April 9th-12th – Bishop Paul S. Loverde’s Holy Week Schedule

Bishop Paul S. Loverde will celebrate Holy Week, the days leading up to and including the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, through a variety of Masses and events.  This Easter, over 1,100 people in the Arlington Diocese will fully join the Catholic Church.

 
April 9th - Holy Thursday:

7:30 a.m. Bishop Loverde will cook breakfast with diocesan seminarians as part of the

annual breakfast for priests, Saint Thomas More Cathedral School, Arlington

10:30 a.m. Chrism Mass, where Bishop Loverde will bless the oil to be used in all of the Sacraments, from priestly ordinations to anointing of the sick, for the following year, Cathedral of Saint Thomas More, Arlington

7:30 p.m. Holy Thursday Sacred Liturgy, a Mass which commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and the beginning of the “Triduum,” the three day period leading up to Easter, Cathedral of Saint Thomas More, Arlington

April 10th - Good Friday:

3:00 p.m. The Lord’s Passion, a memorial of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Cathedral of Saint Thomas More, Arlington

April 11th - Holy Saturday:

9 a.m. Respect Life Rosary at abortion facility, Falls Church

8:30 p.m. Easter Vigil Mass, Cathedral of Saint Thomas More, Arlington

 

April 12th – Easter Sunday:

 

12:30 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass, Saint Andrew the Apostle, Clifton

  

April 19th: 2nd Annual Hispanic Vocations Mass

 

Bishop Paul S. Loverde will preside at the Annual Hispanic Vocations Mass, which encourages vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life from the Hispanic community, a vibrant and growing part of the Church in Northern Virginia. The Mass, at Saint Anthony, Falls Church, is open to all who wish to discern their vocational call and pray for priestly vocations.  The Office of Vocations offers Hispanic discernment groups for men and women, ages 17 and above.  For more information, visit here.

 

April 25th: Catholic Underground

 

Young adults in the Northern Virginia area are flocking to Catholic Underground, modeled after an event started by the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in New York City.  The evening, held at Saint Charles Borromeo, Arlington, consists of prayer, music by Judd and Maggie and socializing in a coffee house atmosphere. Hundreds of young adults have attended the last two events, choosing to spend Saturday evenings in prayer and fellowship. Catholic Underground finds its inspiration in the call of Pope John Paul II, who said that the Gospel lives in conversation with culture. For more information, visit here.

 

April 28th: Couples Offered Practical Solutions to Financial Stress

 

Financial distress puts an extra strain on marriages and relationships. To help families through this strenuous time, Catholic Charities and the Office for Family Life will offer the seminar “The Psychology of Money and Marriage” at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Vienna, which focuses on strategies to manage spending in a practical and positive way while examining the powerful psychological factors surrounding money and providing couples with a usable finance model.  Speakers will include Kenneth Telesca, LPC, a seasoned financial analyst and lending officer, and Sheila Duston, PsyD, an experienced lawyer and clinical psychologist.
