November 11th –Dedication of Saint Theresa Church, Ashburn
Bishop Paul S. Loverde will dedicate a new church building at Saint Theresa Parish, Ashburn, during a celebration of the Mass on November 11th. For the past several years, this parish community of over 3,000 families attended Mass in a multipurpose room at Saint Theresa School. The church, which has been under construction for the past 18 months, will seat 1,200 people. For more information and photos, please visit here.
November 15th – Celebration of the Canonization of Saint Jeanne Jugan
Bishop Paul S. Loverde will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More, Arlington, in honor of the elevation of Jeanne Jugan to sainthood. Saint Jeanne Jugan is the foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor, a religious order that has grown to include 2,700 women worldwide. Born and raised in France, Jeanne Jugan began the order in a small house, taking in the elderly and sick. A saint of great humility, almost no one knew she was the foundress until after her death. November 2nd-23rd– Theology on Tap Series: “Catholics Facing Current Issues”
Each Monday evening over 200 young adults attend Theology on Tap (TOT) at Pat Troy’s Pub, Alexandria. A series of six talks, or “six-packs,” the popular TOT program combines socializing with educational discussions about living the Catholic faith in today’s world. Presenters for TOT’s fall theme, “Catholics Facing Current Issues,” will speak on capital punishment, the history of anti-Catholicism in America and Catholics in the political process. November 25th – Bishop Loverde visits Christ House for Thanksgiving
For the past 10 years, Bishop Loverde has joined the volunteers at Christ House, Alexandria, on Thanksgiving Day to prepare meals and serve the poor. Christ House, a homeless shelter sponsored by Catholic Charities, serves 18,000 meals annually and offers transitional housing 16 men every evening. For more information, visit here.
