SECOND YEAR CERTIFICATION CLASSES
- JPII and the New Evangelization
This session will highlight the missionary trust of the New Evangelization, explaining the key elements of it, along with a summaryof John Paul II's unique contributions to the New Evangelization. It will highlight Paul VI's 'On Evangelization in the Modern World" and John Paul II's 'Mission of the Redeemer."
- Purpose of Catechesis
Following the General Directory for Catechesis and John Paul II's "On Catechesis in our Time", this session will give explore the purpose of catechesis as a deepening of our initial evangelization. It will outline the Christocentric nature of catechesis and overview the aims and tasks of catechesis.
- Moving from Evangelization to Catechesis
This session will look at the different stages of conversion as given to
us in the RCIA process, and apply them to youth ministry. We will examine how to present doctrine to teens no matter where they are at in their faith, and explore the major themes of adolescent catechesis found in John Paul II's "On Catechesis in our Time" and the General Directory for Catechesis.
- Jesus: Healer of Wounds
- General Introduction to Adolescent Development
This session will help youth ministers and those who work with teens to
understand the psychological make-up of today's teen. It will help the participant obtain a holistic picture of the role adolescence plays in the process of development of an , emotionally and morally integrated Christian.
- Counseling Teens and Crisis Situations
This session will help the participant understand the role a youth program should play in the development of adolescent's identity through faith, and in the development of self-esteem based on real qualities of character. It will also give suggestions on how to obtain "hands-on" information about typical crisis situations in the life of an adolescent, as well as about necessary pastoral and professional interventions.
- The Liturgical Mission of the Church
This session will outline the Church's purpose and understanding of Liturgy in light of God's plan of salvation. It will help youth ministers develop a Catholic identity with their teens through the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Confession, offering suggestions for helping teens participate in the liturgy as well as give offer strategies for helping teens see the Eucharist as the 'source and summit' of their lives.
- John Paul II's Understanding of the Family
This session will break open the key principles that permeated Pope John
Paul's teaching on the family. It will discuss the roots of the family in God's plan of salvation, the key traits of healthy family relationships, as well recognize the forces affecting today's family.
- The Christocentricity of Catholic
This session will briefly outline the basic principles of Catholic
morality and how our moral life is rooted in the Person of Jesus. It will discuss the major moral issues teens face today.
- Morality/Veritatis Splendor
- Theology of the Body
This session will give an outline of John Paul II's theology of the body, helping to see the foundations of understanding a Catholic view of sexuality.
- Teaching Catholic Sexuality
This session will outline the document published by the Pontifical Council for the Family entitled, "The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality: Guidelines for Education within the Family." We will then give practical examples of teaching sexuality to teens in a youth ministry setting.

- Mobilizing Teens for Service, Leadership and Vocation
The goal of youth ministry is to lead teens deeper in their relationship with Christ, including fostering vocations.
