Stewardship Reflection, July 7, 2024, 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

”As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to me, 'Son of man, I am sending you…'” Ezekiel 2:2-3

God has a plan for each of us. He calls us to do something for Him. But, He doesn't leave us on our own to figure it out. He gives us the resources we need to do His work. Are you listening for God's call? When you hear it, do you get on your feet and do the work He asks of you? Do not be afraid. God doesn't call the equipped, he equips the called. Answer His call.

Ezequiel 2:2-3

Stewardship Reflection, July 14, 2024, 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

”He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick -- no food, no sack, no money in their belts.” Mark 6:8

Imagine taking nothing but a stick when you go on a trip. The Apostles must have really trusted in God's providential care. Think of all the material things “we can't live without” in today's world. We make our life's journey more difficult because of all the material baggage that we drag along. Putting God first in everything and putting our money and possessions second gives us freedom because we don't become “slaves” to wanting to acquire more things.

Expiration Date: July 15, 2024

(For July 20-21 bulletin)

Stewardship Reflection, July 21, 2024, 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” Mark 6:31

Do you spend time, every day, alone and in silence listening to how God is calling you? If not, you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to develop a more personal relationship with Him. Unless we talk and more importantly, listen to God every day, how else will we know how He is calling us? Consider making a retreat this year, spend some “alone” time with God.

Stewardship Reflection, July 28, 2024, 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

”There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?” John 6:9

The miracle of the Loaves and Fishes carries two important messages. First, no matter how little we have, we always have enough to share. Second, Christ can take our humble gifts and do great things with them if we are just willing to let Him. Nothing is impossible with God. All of our gifts, big or small, were given to us for a reason. No gift is too small or insignificant!

"Free to Be Holy" -- A Talk by Matt Lozano

All are invited to hear Catholic author and speaker Matt Lozano talk about “Free to Be Holy: Discovering Who You Are in Christ” on Tuesday, July 16, at 7 p.m. in the Basilica of Saint Mary Lyceum Auditorium, 313 Duke Street, Alexandria. The talk is based on Matt's book by the same title and will focus on how being holy is an invitation to understand how Jesus made us holy and how we can approach a life of holiness with confident faith and joyful hope. Matt essentially proposes that the pursuit of holiness is not a hopeless struggle but an adventure of discovering who we are in Jesus. Lozano is also the director of training for Unbound, a ministry of healing in which a trained prayer team prays with individuals to assist them in overcoming the spiritual obstacles they encounter in their path of Christian discipleship and helping them to take hold of greater freedom in Christ.

Seeking Friendship with Christ - Men's and Women's Retreat

Join Fr. Daniel Hanley, coordinator of the blessed Stanley Rother House of formation at Mount St. Mary's Seminary, at the Arlington Diocese's San Damiano Retreat Center in White Post, VA and set aside time to understand the life of God within us and open ourselves to the movement of prayer. Prayer is the most proper activity of a baptized soul. As breathing is a necessary part of bodily life, so prayer is "respiration" in the life of grace. Prayer may be understood simply as opening the will to God--but as simple as this may seem, it is not always easy to live. True prayer always comes from and returns to the Eucharist and bears the fruit of love of God and of neighbor. Our goal in this retreat is to form practical resolutions to help us to live in more constant union with Jesus. This silent retreat begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 12, and ends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 14. Retreat cost is $285 per person. For further information or to register, please contact Deacon Mark Maines at mark.maines@arlingtondiocese.org

Finding Jesus with Saints Francis and Clare - Men's and Women's Retreat

Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi have fascinated the world for centuries. How can active men and women in the world draw nearer to Our Lord by learning from their Wisdom, imitating their charity, and finding little ways to embrace their poverty? Join Father John Riley and a small band of brothers and sisters at the Arlington Diocese's San Damiano Retreat Center in White Post, VA as we gather in a silent retreat at the feet of Jesus to consider how to follow Francis and Clare to Christ; in His Crib... and on His Cross. This silent retreat begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 19, and ends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. Retreat cost is $285 per person.
