Media Advisory: Diocese to hold 3rd annual 'From Inclusion to Belonging' conference, this year's topic focusing on mental health

Mental health awareness is a key priority for Bishop Michael F. Burbidge and the Diocese of Arlington.

On February 17, members of the diocesan community, including officials from all four of our diocesan high schools, will be joined with outside experts in special education and mental health fields for the 3rd annual 'From Inclusion to Belonging' conference. Since the COVID pandemic, mental health challenges have affected everyone, but for those with special needs, the impact has been more pronounced.

“May the Holy Spirit guide our efforts during this conference and may we come away renewed and inspired to go forth and a create a community built on interdependence and respect that supports mental health for all,” said Bishop Burbidge ahead of the all-day event.

Bishop Burbidge will attend the conference and celebrate a Sensory Mass at 11:15 a.m.

Notable speakers at the conference include:

  • Mark Bradford, Fellow for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
  • Diane Monnig, Director of Programs for ARC of NoVa
  • Father Matthew P. Schneider, a priest with autism who specializes in care and communication with those who have special needs
  • Charleen Katra, executive director of the National Catholic Partnership on Disability

The conference will include multiple breakout sessions focusing on topics such as transitional planning, Gen Z and mental health, autistic prayer, and building connections.
